The Asian Students Cultural Association (ABK) has a strong track record of assisting international students with all matters related to admissions to higher education institutions in Japan. We offer a comprehensive range of services to help students to enroll successfully at Japanese universities, from overseas public relations activities to orientation sessions after they enter university.

Assessment services for educational history and enrollment eligibility

We research and report on whether candidates’ education levels meet university admissions criteria.

“Is a candidate’s educational background equivalent to a 12-year Japanese school education?”
Detailed investigation is often required to determine whether a candidate’s education levels meet overall university entrance requirements and individual university criteria as specified by the Japanese School Education Act. This may include reviewing different countries’ educational systems or the validity of standardized university entrance qualification examinations, evaluating foreign schools and assessing certificates of secondary education.
There is increasing diversity in terms of applicants’ countries of origin and educational backgrounds. ABK provides a review of applicants’ educational backgrounds to assist in determining whether students are eligible to enroll at Japanese universities.

Application processing services

Our aim is to boost the number of international students in Japan by increasing the number of direct applications from overseas. To achieve this, it is necessary to have a system in place that can handle applications for students with varied backgrounds.
The Association utilizes its accumulated know-how and data to prepare application documents in accordance with the application requirements for each university, assess candidates’ eligibility for enrollment and then submit the required documents for review. In this way, we can handle application and admissions-related projects that require considerable effort and a high level of skill compared to the normal processing of applications. This includes complex evaluations of academic backgrounds, sorting out missing documentation and dealing with inquiries in foreign languages.

How can educational institutions make their information as widely available as possible? This depends very much on their ability to utilize online resources and the Internet.
“JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT” is a comprehensive information site for international students in Japan, created with a focus on the “international student’s point of view” based on our experience in providing consultation services to international students. The portal provides easy-to-understand information on entrance examinations, as well as highlights and key attractions of various institutions (in paid listings) and links to individual university guides (official university sites, downloads of school and college information).

Assistance with residence certificate applications

We provide support in preparing application documents for residence certificates.

Successful applicants who come directly from overseas, such as students who pass an entrance examination prior to coming to Japan, must have a visa. We help with any issues or errors in your application documents to the Immigration Bureau and provide advice on obtaining a visa.

Support services for university admission

We take care of all the work required for contacting universities about admissions on a fully integrated basis (Admissions support desk)

When international students arrive in Japan for their entrance exam before they finally move to Japan, and in between passing the exam and starting at university, there is a lot of communication and administration work required: for example, obtaining a visa, coordinating the immigration schedule, arranging admission to a dormitory, or even just getting hold of directions from the airport to their hotel or university. The Association acts as a liaison with the university.

We have carried out various government-related research studies based on our successful track record and long term experience. Furthermore, our experience in providing comprehensive assistance in all aspects of admissions for international students means we are entrusted with key support services such as assessing education levels and processing applications for various well-known private universities.
